“Nature at its most inspired." Az and Bec, Guestbook

Feynan offers guiding services tailored to suit personal interests and hiking styles. The guides are local Bedouins who have traversed the region their whole lives. For those travellers who prefer to explore on their own, Feynan’s staff are also happy to recommend suitable outings and help plan routes.

Guests have two options for guiding services at Feynan: private guided hikes or on an open guided hike available to all. For the open guided hikes, there are two options each day: a half and full-day excursion. Routes will be decided upon the day before. Be sure to specify which option you are interested in while booking. All pricing can be found in our price list section. Only private guided trips require booking in advance. For private guided hikes, you can check a box on our reservations page and we will respond with pricing and availability.

nature
Discover diverse flora and fauna at the only reserve in Jordan to boast four different bio-geographical zones.
• Birds: Spot many of the 190 species of birds that exist permanently at Dana
Biosphere Reserve or who pass through during migratory periods.
• Plants: Examine some of the 800 plant species, three of which can only be found in
  the Reserve
• Animals: Observe the diverse animal species that exist within the reserve and around
Feynan including the Nubian Ibex, Lesser Kestrel and the turquoise Sinai Agama.

geology
As the Dead Sea Rift has transformed the area over millennia tearing Jordan and Arabia north while Palestine and the Sinai are shifted south, igneous exposures, mountains, and canyons have formed. Unique sandstone rock formations have been carved by the wind while streams of fresh floods have washed out colourful rock structures to the surface. Guests can examine the full geological spectrum of Dana Biosphere Reserve as it descends from a height of 1,500 metres on the Quadesiyya Plateau to below sea level at Wadi Araba.

history
Unearth the history of this ancient land, believed by archaeologists to be one of the oldest places of continuous human activity in Jordan, inhabited during the Stone and Bronze Ages and later populated by the Romans and Byzantines. Settlements illustrate the shift from nomadic life to agriculture; with jagged outcrops shielding some of the oldest copper mines in the world. The presence of the ancient Romans is attested to by the well-preserved aqueduct, a mill and water storage facilities, while that of early Christendom is confirmed by the monastery, church and cemetery.

bedouin culture
Unlock the mysteries of native life by taking a guided walk with local Bedouin to encounter the welcoming people who call this area home. Cross paths with shepherds tending their herds of goats and women walking to the acquifers, leading donkeys
laden with water jugs. Exchange pleasantries outside a Bedouin family’s tent over tea and learn more about the special relationship the local people have with the land.
